The One and Only Ivan Giveaway
Yay my first giveaway!! I have no idea what I am doing, but I'm going to give it a try! I have heard so many people talk about the book The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate recently. It also won the 2013 Newberry Award. I decided I needed to check it out for myself, and I somehow ended up with 2 copies. So it is up for grabs to one of my lovely followers!

"You Might Want to Step Up Your Game"
As I was walking around the classroom this morning, I noticed one group of students all had a notecard on their desk that was split in half with one side labeled students and the other labeled Miss K. Underneath the names were tally marks. Soooo obviously I needed to know what this was about so I asked my best student.....he got really nervous and said he didn't make it up and that I should probably ask someone else. Another student then explained that I got a tally when I said something funny or interesting and the class got a tally when they said something funny or interesting. He pointed out that I was losing and I " might want to step up my game." I tend to be a little competitive so I found myself teaching and saying something funny and then pointing out that what I said was funny and that they should mark it down....pathetic I know. Clearly I am not as funny as I think I am. Not sure what the total was at the end of the day....but I'm sure I won :)

New Birthday Tradition!
Last weekend I was over at my aunt's house celebrating her birthday and she brought out the CUTEST thing ever....... it was a singing birthday hat! As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to have one for my classroom. So I immediately went to Hallmark and now my class has a new tradition for celebrating birthdays....they have to get the privilege of wearing the singing birthday hat! They think it is hilarious and LOVE it!! Here is a video of the hat...

Monday Made It-January Edition
I seriously loooooove this linky party! Everyone comes up with such great ideas, it makes me feel all inspired....at least for a little while! You would think with a whole two weeks off I would have come up with lots of good stuff, but unfortunately I did not :( Here are a few things I want to share though! I also apologize in advance....every single picture I wanted to show turned out terribly!
1. I meant to post this a LONG time ago but never got around to it. I make this poinsettia craft around Christmas every year and it always turns out so cute! It uses up a lot of construction paper, but if you just take a pack or two from the supply room at a time no one seems to notice :)
2. Next up are some fraction foldables I made. I have kinda become obsessed with foldables lately so here are the ones we are working on now!
3. I am already excited for Valentine's Day because it will mean our last class party I mean wooohooo another class party! So I was trying to get in the spirit and made some math centers to go along with the Valentine's Day theme. I made some for fractions, place value, rounding, and multiplication. I am still trying to finish some for geometry and long division. Here are just a few pictures. If you are interested though you can check them out at my TPT store.
4. I'm sure now that everyone is back to school the focus is on getting ready for state testing. I just hate, hate, hate the pressure that comes from these tests....especially after having two years of not meeting AYP. I made some task cards that I plan on doing with my students to review some of the ELA standards. I made two sets of root word task cards and then a set that specifically go along with the vocabulary from Common Core. My students really like to doing Scoot with task cards, as it gives them a chance to get up and move around a bit. Again if you are interested, you can check them out at my TPT store.
Well that is all I have for ya! Can't wait to see what you came up with!!

Valentine's Day Possible Freebie!
I started working on some Valentine's Day themed math centers today and I got one finished! It is pretty basic but a good review of rounding and has cute graphics! Students will work in pairs to round numbers from the tens place to the millions and find the card with the answer that matches! First person to comment gets a free copy otherwise you can check it out at my TPT store. I plan on making some fraction, decimal, measurement, geometry, multiplication, and division centers as well....I better get busy!
