Monday Made It: Human Body

It's Monday which means it is time to link up with 4th Grade Frolic's Monday Made It!

This week I want to share something that I meant to share a while back.....the last science unit I did with my students was the human body. We did a lot of fun activities and this might be my new favorite unit to teach. We started off with the digestive unit. We read about it and watched a cool Magic School House movie. We discussed the lengths of the small and large intestine and measured them out. Then I had the students work in groups to draw diagrams of the digestive system. They used yarn to show the actual length of the small and large intestine. The posters turned out great! Here are a few examples!

My coworker also did a really cool activity with the digestive system. She made a larger model and used panty hose and newspapers to show the large and small intestine. Here is a picture!

  1. The larger model with the pantyhose and newspapers is a little gross -- I'm sure the kids LOVED it! I have done the yard thing before, but we just stretched it out to see how long it was. I like your idea too!
