Free Fraction App and Giveaway Help Please?!

I was contacted by Crystal at Visual Math Studio to review a new game they are working on called Zap, Zap, Fractions. This basic fraction review game has two parts.... a lesson and a game. The lesson is very basic and explains and shows what a fraction is. It shows fractions represented by a circle graph and also on a number line. I really liked how the lesson was interactive, having students answer questions throughout the demonstration. Once students have gone through the lesson they can move over to the game. The game has students identify different fractions in order to avoid being hit by an asteroid. Again this is a very basic game but would be a good review after an introductory fraction lesson. The game is free for the time being so click below to download! Who doesn't love a free App!?

Weather Task Cards Flash Freebie

I made a huge list of things that I wanted to create for school this summer but have been too busy having fun to get started. Now that I am realizing my summer break is coming to an end, I guess it's time to get my butt in gear and get working!

This weekend I have been busy listening to people like Brad Paisley, Montgomery Gentry, Leah Turner, and Randy Houser at the Country Life Music Festival, but I did manage to get another set of science task cards made. This set covers weather vocabulary terms. As with all my new products, they will be free for the next hour or until I remember to change it back to a paid product. Click the picture to download. Feedback is appreciated :)

Enjoy your Sunday! I'm off to enjoy the last day of the music festival and listen to this guy!

2014 Pen Pal Pair Up!

Kelley at the Teacher Idea Factory just announced that the 2014 Pen Pal Pair Up sign up is up and running! I was so excited to get paired up last year, but unfortunately my pen pal partner didn't follow through in sending letters :( I'm hopeful this year will be better and that my students and I will be able to make some new friends through pen pals! Click on the picture below to head over to  Kelley's blog if you want to be paired up with pen pals for this coming school year!

Throwback Thursday: Point of View

I am linking up with The Teaching Tribune and Teacher's Desk 6 today for Throwback Thursday!  This post comes from October 15, 2013. I'm posting this today because it talks about one of my new favorite picture books....The Day the Crayons Quit. Seriously LOVE this book. If you haven't read it, you must! It will make you laugh!

I haven't done a whole lot with point of view in the past, but this year in our most recent Storyworks magazine ( btw I LOVE this magazine!) there was a poem that was perfect for introducing point of view! The poem is called Theme in Yellow by Carl Sandburg. This poem is written in first person, through a pumpkin's viewpoint. You can see the poem by clicking here

We then used a great freebie that I found on TpT by Chrissy Beltran. This resource has definitions and examples of the first and third person point of view. Click the picture below to download this great product!

We also added the term point of view to our reading notebooks. We are using Nicole Shelby's Interactive Reading Notebook and I LOOOOOVE it!! If you don't have it already, I highly recommend heading over to TpT and purchasing it! It is an excellent resource. It is really helping me make sure I am covering all of the CC standards.

4th Grade Interactive Reading Notebook (aligned with Common Core)

Here is a picture of what we added to our notebooks.

I also read The Day the Crayons Quit by  Drew Dewalt. Such a cute story told through the crayons' point of views.

This week I plan on having my students write their own stories through an objects point of view.

What activities do you use when teaching point of view?

July Currently!

Can someone please explain to me how it is JULY already?! This summer is flying by!

Today I am linking up with Farley for her Currently linky!

Listening: I love the summers and being able to watch the Today show and also Kelly and Michael. I miss these shows during the school year!

Loving: I seriously love summer break. I just got back from a great vacation in Denver and now I'm looking forward to just being lazy and enjoying the pool!

Thinking: I really, really, really, HATE Illinois weather. Why oh why do I live in Illinois?? I ask myself this on a daily basis. It is time to move! I can't handle the humidity anymore! I start sweating and the hair frizzes just thinking about going outside these days!

Wanting: I have a problem with starting projects that I can't finish.....and then calling my dad for help and then he roles his eyes. This happens quite regularly...so you won't be surprised to know that I need some help with the bathroom floor that I'm changing up!!

Needing: I need to work out, like bad. But....like I said the humidity and heat are preventing me from going on a run.

4th Plans: I am looking forward to hanging out by the pool and cooking out with friends for the 4th!

What are you currently up to? Go link up!
