Spark Student Motivation Saturdays

Today I am linking up with Joanne for her Spark Student Motivation linky party! What a great idea to share quick and easy ways that teachers motivate students.
Something that I do is a monthly candy guessing jar. Each month I fill up a jar with a certain type of candy. If a student passes an Accelerated Reader test, they get a slip of paper to guess how many pieces of candy are in the jar. At the end of the month, I pick the closest guess and the winner gets the candy! Not much too it, but the students enjoy it and look forward to hearing the winner each month!

What are some things that you do to motivate your students? Link up!

  1. Wow-that's so simple but effective! I love tying it to passing AR/RC test-I'm going to add this to my class! Thanks for sharing and joining my first party! Hope to see you again next week!

  2. My kiddos get a piece of candy if they score an 80% or better on each test, but I wonder if they would be more motivated by a big prize like this? Great idea!

  4. Since I foolishly did not require donators to provide their email address, I have to leave you a comment about my giveaway. Thanks SO much for your generous donation :) Here is the link to my post.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me :)

  5. Oh, I like the idea of getting a guess - works on estimation too! I'm collecting so many great ideas from the "Saturday Spark" link-up, thanks! :)

  6. I found you through Mindful Rambles :) I'm following your blog and I give random candies based upon anything I want. It wasn't a strategy when I taught grade two's, but my sixes and sevens loved it last year. I would say something like "Congratulations, today, everyone who handed in homework gets a sucker" or whatever candy I had lurking about. I did have more students getting their homework done as a result.
